The Best Guide for a Salesforce B2C Commerce Developer Credential
Your comprehensive guide to successfully navigate the Salesforce B2C Commerce Developer credential exam and secure your certification.
In recent months, I’ve assisted numerous developers in preparing for the Salesforce B2C Commerce Developer certification. Throughout this process, I extensively researched various available materials, including similar guides. However, I encountered outdated content with broken links and incomplete information in some places. In my quest for the most reliable resources, I discovered that certain materials required financial investments, such as Udemy courses, or exclusive access for partners. This guide aims to be your go-to resource, catering to everyone, regardless of financial constraints or partnership status. Whether you’re a customer, partner, or graduating student, you’ll find comprehensive and accessible materials to help you prepare for and pass the certification. Let’s embark on this certification journey together with #CommerceCrew.
Like any certification, the first and most crucial step is to understand the details of the certification, including the number of questions, duration, topics covered, and available guides with sample questions. To gather this information, you can refer to three essential resources:
- Credentials main page of the B2C Commerce Developer
- Salesforce Certified B2C Commerce Developer Exam Guide
- SALESFORCE CERTIFIED B2C COMMERCE DEVELOPER Winter ’19 (Note: While this guide is old and deprecated, it holds value for its sample questions. The previous resource in the list replaces it but lacks sample questions.)
These three resources provide comprehensive insights into the key aspects of the Salesforce B2C Commerce Developer certification, offering potential candidates an overview of the certification’s content and structure.
I recommend active participation in two paid training sessions: B2C Commerce Merchant (CCM101) and B2C Commerce Developer with SFRA (CCD102), as outlined in the aforementioned resources. While these courses come with a cost, I perceive them as a valuable investment. The first course provides a comprehensive overview of the functional aspects of the platform, while the second delves into Storefront Reference Architecture (SFRA) and APIs, a significant component of the certification.
For those who might find these courses financially challenging, do not be discouraged. This article will guide you through alternative pathways to prepare for the certification effectively and ensure successful outcomes even without enrolling in these paid courses.
Additionally, based on my knowledge, some partners have drawn inspiration from these courses and developed in-house versions. This allows their developers to access training without the need for Salesforce-led courses, utilizing internal resources. If you work for a partner, I recommend exploring this option within your organization as well.
As it’s more important to start with high-level and functional knowledge, my first recommendation with “free-of-charge resources” would be to pick up all available Trailmixes, Trails, and Modules around B2C Commerce Cloud. There are a few Community Trailmixes, one from the Unofficial Community admin Kyle Montgomery, another from the active community member Maxime Rebibo, and many more which you can find by using the search keyword: “B2C Commerce developer trailmix”. A few of them are:
- Develop for Salesforce B2C Commerce
- B2C Commerce Developer Trailmix
- Preparing Salesforce B2C Commerce developer certification
These resources provide a solid foundation of high-level and functional knowledge, ensuring a well-rounded understanding of B2C Commerce Cloud. Going through these Trailmixes, Trails, and Modules will not only enhance your conceptual understanding but also set a strong base for more detailed exploration later in your certification journey.
When you are done with Trailhead or feeling a bit overwhelmed reading and answering questions, take a moment to sit back, relax, and focus on watching the ‘Fast Path to B2C Commerce Developer Certification’ course from Salesforce. Originally designed exclusively for Partners on the Partner Learning Portal, the video content from this course is now available for everyone through direct access links. The course consists of six videos covering major concepts to prepare you for certification. Consider it a condensed version of B2C Commerce Developer with SFRA (CCD102), summarizing the main topics and ideas covered in both. Here is the list:
- Module 1 — Kickoff
- Module 2 — Cartridges and Controllers
- Module 3 — Models, ISML, Client-Side JS
- Module 4 — Forms, Transactions, Middleware Events
- Module 5 — Page Designer and Jobs Framework
- Module 6 — OCAPI & Web Service Framework
These videos offer a convenient and efficient way to grasp the core concepts, providing a helpful supplement to your certification preparation journey.
While we’ve covered all the official enablement resources provided by Salesforce, there’s one more gem worth exploring: a series of quizzes designed to validate your knowledge with a set of questions that simulate the certification exam. Dive into the 8 quizzes that are part of the ‘Fast Path to B2C Commerce Developer Certification.’ As mentioned earlier, the video assets for this course are now accessible to everyone, not just partners. For partners, these quizzes are integral to the Fast Path to B2C Commerce Developer Certification course on the partner learning camp. The quizzes cover the following topics:
Take advantage of these quizzes to reinforce your understanding of key concepts and test your readiness for the Salesforce B2C Commerce Developer certification.
Speaking of quizzes and preparations, in the article ‘Your Ultimate Guide to Working with Salesforce Commerce Cloud,’ I introduced SFCC Learning by Jonatan. Jonatan has crafted a Udemy course that includes 3 Certification Tests (180 Q&A) providing a sample of exam questions and answers. In essence, it offers three practice tests geared towards preparing you for certifications. Currently awarded with a ‘bestseller’ badge and maintaining a 4.2 score from 32 ratings and 278 students, it has received positive reviews. While I personally haven’t taken the course, the absence of red flags or negative feedback has led me to recommend it. If you’re willing to invest a few extra dollars in your certification preparation, this course could be a valuable resource.
For those fortunate enough to work for a company with a Udemy subscription, it’s worth checking if you can access this course for free. This could significantly simplify your preparation process.
In case you don’t have the ability to access Jonatan’s Udemy course or are seeking additional resources, I have something for you. Allow me to introduce “Quizzes: Salesforce B2C Commerce Developer Credential,” an ongoing project where I’ve combined three other quizlets into one master set. This compilation is filtered with my own judgments and augmented via AI with the assistance of ChatGPT 4 & BridgeGPT.AI (a solution from Brian Case).
The resources I used to create this quiz are as follows:
- SFCC Commerce Cloud (B2C) Certificate — BM Questions
- SFCC Digital Developer Exam 2019–2020
- SFCC Digital Developer Exam — Confirmed Topics (take the “confirmed topics” part with a grain of salt; it’s just how the quiz is named and doesn’t actually mean the topics are confirmed, nor the questions themselves).
Even if these questions may not appear on the certification, they serve as excellent exercises to prepare yourself for the actual exam.
Although I’m not the first one to create a guide to help you get certified, I believe that the resources mentioned above, along with the additional helpful links provided below, should guide and assist you in gaining the confidence to pass the exam.
I am aware of at least one successful attempt by an individual holding a leadership role in a thriving enterprise who followed some of the resources mentioned above and successfully passed the certification exam. Therefore, it’s not rocket science, and you can achieve it as well. Good luck, my friend, and please let me know in the comments if this content has been helpful to you or if you have any extra resources to share.
